Totally Awesome Toaster Project (TAT)
Imagine you are on your way to Mars and can’t sleep. Your woke up dreaming about fresh, hot toast with butter, and because there is a TAT on board you can make at least two slices without overrunning your personal power budget, because the TAT only uses a tiny fraction of old school toasters back home.
Using only microwatts, modulated laser? microwave beam zapper? zips across the slice in a few seconds. bringing instant gratification. Wow! What’s your idea? This project has started and needs team members and leaders. Interested? Click here.
First Thanksgiving on Mars
No one wants to eat more green goo, especially on Thanksgiving, so you are one of two cross-trained farmers who made the crew, and your primary mission is to raise free range chickens on Mars!
If you are a lifelong farmer with a spirit of adventure, not to mention being being the 5th generation on your family farm with a MS in Ag, it doesn’t get better than this. So let’s talk about your weight and energy budget, and the logistics of how you are really going to make this work. For example, when do the eggs hatch? Get the picture? And maybe the best outcome, the CHICKENS eat the green goo, not you, and you eat the chickens! Who knew it could be so simple!

Mars Mountain Recovery Race
This contest will develop and test human vs machine ability to rescue two people stranded on a Martian mountain top. Its going to happen sooner or later, why not start training here on Earth?
The contest will develop and test human ability to rescue two people stranded on a Martian mountain top. Its going to happen sooner or later, so why not start now?
Starting here on Earth, contestants will race both UP and DOWN the mountain after retrieving simulated victims at the top. All vehicles must be powered entirely by renewable energy resources and capable of fully autonomous driving versus a human at the controls. Each contestant will compete twice, once with a human driving and a second time with the on-board AI driving. Possible race locations include Pike’s Peak in the US and several mountaintop observatories around the world.
We have until 2026 to get this right, and if you win the contest Elon might just decide to take you along. Obviously we can’t promise anything, but, interested? Click here
The Great French Broad River Race
This project almost started and then COVID hit. Starting in Asheville, North Carolina, contestants will travel to the end of the French Broad in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee.
All boats must be made from renewable resources and fossil fuels are banned from both the boats and the support crew vehicles.
The project has a serious side, and each boat will be equipped with real-time environmental sensors and GPS to create the first river basin “ecological footprint” for one of America’s beautiful natural treasures.
